Joseph Richard O'Shell passed away on January 19, 2022, at 79. Rick was born in Tennessee and grew up in Kentucky and Kingston, TN.

Rick was preceded in death by his wife, Mary Sue O'Shell, brothers Leonard, James, Don, Teddy Dean, and Steve; mother Mary Shepherd-O'Shell and father, Martin O'Shell.

He is survived by fiancée Rosetta O'Shell, his daughter Melody Ann Dinkins and her husband Donald Dinkins of TN, grandchildren April and Matthew Dinkins, and daughter Robin Leah O'Shell and her wife Sydney Shackelford of NJ; and by his brother Parker O'Shell, of Virginia, as well as nieces and nephews, and children and grandchildren of his fiancée.

Rick loved music - legend has it that he played guitar before learning to walk. He played keyboards and guitar beautifully by ear.

He joined the US Navy in 1960, later transferring to the US Air Force in 1967. He was a mechanical engineer when he left the service in 1978 and worked at ORNL, Boeing International, and others. He worked in construction with his brothers and had a role in building many homes throughout East Tennessee.

Rick loved his family and was always ready to help them in any way he could - he was a loving and caring father, grandfather, uncle, brother, and fiancé. He loved his dog, Arlo Dusty Rose, dearly.

A true gentleman and an adventurer at heart, we know he is now making celestial music and lighting our world, all we have to do is look up at the stars to see him.
